Nunton is the site of a ruined chapel, Teampall Mhoire, an old burial ground and a modern cemetery. Cula Bay, at Nunton is identified on the OS map as Nunton Bay but locally known as Cula Bay. It has glorious white sands; spectacular sunsets can be viewed from the northern edge.
The Restful Nest at Nunton is one mile from the village of Balivanich, where there are two shops which are open every day. The Uist and Barra hospital is in Balivanich. MacLennans, in particular, provide an excellent range of produce, daily newspapers etc.
The Post Office and The Bank of Scotland (which has a cashline) are also in the village just outside the airport. There is also a petrol station and garage.

Borve Guest House has four letting rooms: one single, two twins and one double. The double room has a double bed and two single beds and can be used as a family room.
Three of the rooms have en-suite facilities; the remaining twin room has private bath/shower. All rooms are supplied with Neutrogena toiletries, a hospitality tray, TV, clock radio and hairdryer.
There is a PC with broadband internet access for residents' use. Guests who bring their own Wifi-enabled laptops can access broadband, in privacy, from their rooms and/or the gardens.
The guest house provides an excellent base for exploring the beautiful beaches, lochs and moorland that characterise the island, and seeing all the wildlife they attract. It is conveniently located for Benbecula airport (3 miles), a range of local attractions and places to eat. The remains of Borve Castle are on the doorstep. This recently-renovated thatched cottage offers traditional and comfortable self catering accommodation for two people in the crofting township of Balivanich.
The cottage was originally built in 1880 and great care has been taken to maintain its original features such as an exposed stone wall, re-claimed flooring and exposed rafters. It is, however, sympathetically furnished with everything required for your stay.
Its location in the centre of Benbecula allows easy access to beaches, lochs, walks and local facilities including a 9 hole golf course. It is also an ideal central base for exploring the surrounding islands of North Uist, Berneray, South Uist and Eriskay which also offer an abundance of local history and bird life including the elusive corncrake and many other species of birds such as golden eagles, sea eagles and hen harriers.
Living Area: the open plan living space is larger than most thatched cottages and is comfortably furnished to a high standard. It offers a solid fuel stove, Sky TV (plus), Broadband internet connection and an Xbox games console with a selection of games.
Kitchen Area: adjoining the living room the kitchen is fitted with a fan assisted oven and hob, washer/dryer, microwave oven as well as all the necessary crockery and utensils required. A drop-leaf table allows increased floor space when not in use. Also provided are an iron and board, clothes airer, vacuum cleaner etc
Bedroom: the bedroom is tastefully decorated and is fitted with traditional pine furniture including a double bed, bedside tables and a tallboy wardrobe.
Bathroom: the bathroom has been traditionally decorated and comprises a white bathroom suite and electric shower.
Heating and hot water are operated by an electric boiler system which provides constant hot water in the kitchen and bathroom.
Non smoking is preferred; however a cleaning charge will be applied if guests wish to do so.

Tigh Curstaig is a traditional stone-built thatched croft cottage, built over 150 years ago, and fully modernised to a high standard. It is situated on a working family croft, at the water's edge, in the peaceful township of Kyles Flodda, Benbecula.
The cottage retains many of its original features such as the luxury built-in box bed with king size orthopaedic mattress, original stonework, and small sash windows, and its 3 foot thick walls to keep the occupants cosy and safe from the elements. The cottage is one of the very few, last remaining original cottages, with its unique marram grass thatched roof and is listed by Historic Scotland.
Tigh Curstaig comprises a comfortable, open plan lounge area with flatscreen TV/DVD player, double sofa bed, dining table & chairs and a small, well equipped modern kitchen with ceramic cooker fridge freezer & washing/drying machine.
The bedroom has a king sized luxury box bed, and the toilet contains an electric shower and heated towel rail. Bed linen and towels are provided free of charge. The cottage is heated by electric convector heaters and a small electric stove situated in the old fireplace. Guests will be expected to pay for any electricity used. Private parking is provided at the cottage.
Tigh Curstaig is located 3 miles from the village of Balivanich which has an airport, supermarket, shops, post office, garage, petrol station, bank, hospital, restaurant and golf course.
Kyles Flodda is a quiet peaceful crofting community and the cottage rests in the shadows of Rueval hill, at the tidal inlet by the sea and is close to the island of Flodda, where there is a resident colony of seals at Seal Point. Golden eagles, short eared owls, buzzards oyster catchers and even otters are regular visitors to Kyles Flodda.
The Island of Benbecula is in the heart of the Outer Hebrides, with road links to the islands of South Uist & Eriskay to the south, and Grimsay, North Uist and Berneray to the north. It is also easily accessed by short ferry links from Oban, Barra, Skye, Harris and Lewis.
Benbecula is also quickly accessed with daily air links from Glasgow, Barra and Stornoway.
Benbecula is renowned for its spectacular wildlife and birds. It is popular for sea and loch fishing, its spectacular beaches & skyscape and is a paradise for long relaxing walks and breathtaking views. Situated on a SSSI site you will hear the calls of the corncrakes, skylarks, cornbunting & curlews to name but a few. From our croft you can take a short walk across to Culla Bay which then connects to my neighbouring family croft from where you can take a refreshing coastline walk in turn leading to yet more beautiful and unspoilt beaches to the Southwest of the Island. Katie and Murdo MacLeod welcome you to Glendale self-catering accommodation on the island of Grimsay in the Western Isles of Scotland. Glendale is a self-contained annexe overlooking Kallin Harbour.
The accommodation comprises an en-suite bedroom, a living room, kitchen/dining room, two shower & toilet rooms and double glazed windows throughout.
The private front door opens into the entrance hall. Glendale Self Catering is self-contained and accessed through a private front door. At the front of the house is the kitchen and dining area which looks out onto the front garden, harbour, and the Minch beyond. An extensive range of kitchen facilities include a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, oven, microwave and washing machine/tumble dryer, table and chairs. Pots, pans, dishes cutlery etc. are provided for your use.
Off the entrance hall is the living room which enjoys views of the back garden and Ronay. The living room is very comfortable with a TV, DVD player, VHS player, stereo, iPod docking station and a selection of local interest books, maps and film. There is a welcome folder which also includes local information including shop opening times, eating places, church services and much more.
There is a shower room, including a toilet, adjoining the living room. A utility room containing a washing machine and tumble dryer is accessible from the entrance hall.

Nunton House Hostel is located on Benbecula in the centre of the Uists. It's an ideal location for all, within easy reach for walks, wildlife, beachcombing, and hill climbing. It's easily accessible; on the main bus route through the islands and just over 1 mile from Balivanich the main village in the Southern Isles, which is home to the airport, shops, post office, bank, restaurant and pub.
Nunton House Hostel has been recently refurbished and is set within part of the former 18th century home of the Clan Chief of the Clan Ranald, where Bonnie Prince Charlie got dressed a Betty Burke, Flora MacDonald's maid, before escaping over the sea to Skye.
The hostel offers 16 single bunk beds within four en-suite dorm rooms, a well equipped kitchen with open plan common/dining room with magnificent original inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove.

This traditional stone built croft cottage was originally constructed over one hundred years ago but was completely renovated in the mid 1990s. It has one double bedroom and an open plan kitchen/living room. It has a 'breakfast bar' and has been fitted with a worktop hob with a combination microwave instead of a standard cooker.
Heating is provided by off peak storage heaters, with a solid fuel burning stove in the living area for those cooler evenings. A washing machine is available in an adjacent shed.
The cottage is located to the south east of Benbecula on the shores of Loch Kilerivagh. There is a Co-op shop with ATM, and a Post Office at Creagorry which is approximately 4 miles away.
