Solas is a beautiful 1930s Art Deco house, which is now available for self-catering holiday accommodation. It was built the same year as Edward VIII abdicated to marry the infamous Wallis Simpson and reflects the elegance and simplicity of the period.

Master Bedroom: this is a large airy room with a double sized orthopaedic bed. A widescreen TV is provided with digital reception and a DVD player. There is a ceiling fan, hairdryer, vanity unit and ample storage.

En-suite: the en-suite is fitted with wash-hand basin and vanity unit. Large bathroom cabinet, bidet and power shower. Bathrobes are provided along with ample towels and toiletries.

Other Bedrooms: the second double bedroom has two single beds, two chests of drawers and a wardrobe and is situated next to the bathroom. The third bedroom contains a double bed, digital TV and ample storage and is conveniently situated next to the bathroom.

A travel cot is available on request and if parents prefer to have their child with them at night, there is ample room in the master bedroom.

Bathroom: relax in the large cast-iron bath after a hard day cycling/fishing/walking or just relaxing! There is an electric shower above the bath and toiletries and towels are provided.

Family room: the family room is tastefully and comfortably furnished. It is equipped with Digital TV/DVD, a docking station and a wide selection of books, games and DVDs. This room has a traditional cast iron gas living flame fire with beautiful pitched pine surround. There are two double leather sofas in this room.

Living room: the living room is spacious and airy with a beautiful living-flame fireplace. There is ample seating and it is classically furnished to a very high standard. There is a Bang and Olufsen music centre and Tannoy speakers for the music lover. A wide selection of CDs, magazines and books are provided in the bookcase.

Why not relax on the chaise longue and listen to your favourite music or lie back with a good book while your dinner is cooking slowly in the kitchen!

There is no television in this room as it is an oasis of calm for parents to rest and enjoy some time out while their children sleep or watch television next door (there is a good selection of children's DVDs provided).

Kitchen and Dining Room: the kitchen has under-floor heating and is very well equipped with gas range with two ovens, grill, warming plate and griddle. As you would expect, there is an automatic washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave. All kitchenware is provided and a good selection of cookery books is provided in the bookcase in the family room.

The kitchen leads into the dining room, which also has under-floor heating, and seats 6. It also houses a gas stove for those chilly nights. Light the candles, relax and enjoy a home cooked meal in beautiful surroundings. Or alternatively order in from the local Chinese or Thai restaurants (voted top in Scotland by the Scotsman and only five minutes walk away!).

External Deck Area: for warmer days there is an external deck area with ample garden furniture and a gas barbeque provided. There is also a chiminea and fuel provided as well as a patio heater.

The house offers a central location which is ideal for sight seeing. It is within walking distance of the ferry terminal and the harbour.

Bed & breakfast is also available from £35 per night.

This recently built, 4-star semi-detached croft house overlooks the Kyles of Valasay, and provides private, self contained accommodation in one of the most beautiful settings in the Western Isles, sometimes called the Outer Hebrides.

The large lounge affords beautiful views of the Kyles of Valasay, and has an open solid fuel fire for your added comfort. The spacious kitchen is fitted with an electric cooker, fridge, microwave oven and a washer/dryer. The first floor has 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom and a bathroom with bath, wash basin, shower and WC.

Oil fired central heating and coal are included in the rental charge. All bed linen is supplied free. Colour TV, video and payphone are also supplied.

As some of our guests have allergies, we are unable to accept any pets.

These are some comments from our guests.

"This house is a self contained part of the owners' house, with a separate entrance. It was recently built, and has been decorated and furnished to the highest standard. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and contain everything you are likely to need on a self catering holiday. We were impressed to find reference books for birds, as the wildlife in the area is fascinating and unusual for townies like us. Central heating can be used as much as necessary, and there is also an open fire with fuel supplied. The location of the cottage is spectacular, with hills and water all around - we took millions of photos, especially of the unbelievable sunsets. The owners are a fount of knowledge about the area if you want it, but will leave you alone if you appear to prefer that. They can suggest good places to visit. Lewis and Harris make a beautiful island, and a holiday in this area would suit anyone who enjoys wonderful scenery, peace and quiet. I cannot recommend it too highly." Sheila from Edinburgh

"An excellent property with good facilities. The kitchen dining area is well equipped, and well laid out. The living room has an open fire, and everything you need to use it is supplied! The bedrooms are spacious, with sufficient storage space for clothes for a week. And you shouldn't need more as there's a washing machine in the kitchen. All in all a cracking place to stay. You could spend a whole week exploring the area around the cottage without using your car" Robert from Crawley
